A communiqué at the end of the association’s 2012 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital recently by the President of the society, Professor Gregory Erhabo attributed the high number of Nigerians suffering from asthma and other chest diseases to lack of preventive measures and lukewarm attitude of some people.
He described asthma as chronic disease which has claimed lives of several eminent and downtrodden Nigerians.
He called for establishment of thoracic health centres in each of the six geo- political zones in the country to cater for the cure and prevention of asthma and other chest related ailments.

He canvassed for the recruitment of more experts in chest related ailments who will be in charge of preventive and cure of the diseases, stressing that preventing the disease was not as expensive as treating it.
