No fewer than ten persons are now in Police net over the last week clash between the Hausa and Yoruba in Ile-Ife as the Hammed Bello – led probe panel raised by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Idris, on Saturday stormed Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
New Nigerian gathered that the probe panel is to among other things, look into the “immediate and remote” causes of the crisis and submit its findings to the police authorities for appropriate action to prevent future occurrence of the incident.
The team will visit Hausa and Yoruba leaders involved in the conflict, pay courtesy visit on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in his palace and other stakeholders in the city.
Osun Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folasade Odoro while commenting on the arrival of the panel to the state, declared that apart from investigating the cause of the conflict, the panel would also work out how to ensure a cordial relationship between the groups in the conflict.
Mrs Odoro while disclosing that relative peace has returned to Ife, added that anti-riot policemen and other security operatives are fully on ground to ensure that there is no breach of the peace.
The PPRO hinted that detectives were still on the trail of some suspected culprits while ten persons had been arrested and were assisting the Police in their investigation.
